Document Summary

According to rational-emotive-behaviour therapy (rebt), people have an innate desire to survive, feel pleasure, and more towards self-actualization. Albert ellis identified two innate biological propensities: tendency to think and behave irrationally, the ability to think rationally and be proactive in detecting and disputing irrational beliefs to live a more self-actualizing life is also natural. According to rebt people are neither good or bad if they respond to others with a rational belief system. Ellis stated that people can be naturally helpful and loving as long they do not think irrationally. Rebt concentrates on people"s current beliefs, attitudes, and self-statements and is based on the belief that those message contribute to or cause as well as maintain people"s emotional and behavioural disturbances. Self-demandingness: must perform well, must have approval of all, anxiety, depression, withdrawal, etc. Other-demandingness: people must be considerate, fair, if not, they are unworthy, bad, anger, hurt, jealously, etc.
