What is bre: very ne almost hair like structures, when grouped together and twisted, create strands called yarn, yarn is then used to weave to gather to make fabric. Natural or manufactured: natural sources consist of silkworm, caterpillars, rabbits, plant sources. Wool: crimped bre, shingle-like covering of scales, rain drips right off of shingles - making it water resistant for a period of time. Silk: also a natural bre, triangular shape under microscope. Cotton: comes from mature seed pod of ower, leaves have to be removed from cotton boll, kidney bean shape. Twisted ribbon shape: natural plant sources - flax (linen) Looks a lot like bamboo - hollow bre. Manufactured fibres: made by humans, mechanism is called spinnerette. What is tow: mono lament means 1 - multi lament means many, tow is a grouping of lament yarns, most fabrics we encounter will be multi lament.
