Week 8The Twill Weave
The twill weave is identified by the visible diagonal lines in the fabric. The twill
weave is written as a fraction: 2/1, or 3/1, or 2/2, etc. Twill weaves are usually
heavier, durable fabrics.

Part 1 Characteristics of the Twill Weave
Twill weaves have visible diagonal lines, or wales on the surface of the fabric.
This line can be Left Handed, or Right Handed. Observe the differences in the
illustration below:
Figure 15.
When more warp yarns are visible on the surface of the fabric, it is called a warp
faced twill. When more weft yarns are visible on the face, it is a weft faced twill.
When it is equal, it is called an even twill.
Observe and mount the sample of even and warp face twills. Describe the slope
of twill and whether the twill is right or left handed.

Document Summary

The twill weave is identified by the visible diagonal lines in the fabric. The twill weave is written as a fraction: 2/1, or 3/1, or 2/2, etc. Part 1 characteristics of the twill weave. Twill weaves have visible diagonal lines, or wales on the surface of the fabric. This line can be left handed, or right handed. When more warp yarns are visible on the surface of the fabric, it is called a warp faced twill. When more weft yarns are visible on the face, it is a weft faced twill. When it is equal, it is called an even twill. Observe and mount the sample of even and warp face twills. Describe the slope of twill and whether the twill is right or left handed. Part 2 plotting the twill weave and its variations. The twill pattern is written as a fraction: 2/2, 2/1, 3/1, 1/2, etc. This fraction describes the bath of the warp yarn.
