Abstract aesthetic, forged by artistic avant garde movement & bauhaus. 2nd phase/international style: ran from late 1920s to 60s. 1919 put money into improving basic living conditions: low-cost housing, 1919-34 built a lot of houses. No bricks many explored possibilities of poured concrete or steel frame with pumice block infill. Flat roofs departure from the pitched vernacular designs. Simple geometric forms no deco motifs.
