Better living through better pipes - video technology convergence. Ben wrote scripts, which were filmed, put into cans and sent to theatres. Television broadcasting is a way to distribute (deliver) the product. Efficient delivery of information (content: quality of the reception/viewing experience, cost for consumer for manufacturer / distributor, convenience of viewing. But rarely the show itself: hd allows for easier editing, betacams allows for in field reporting, plasma screens / 3d, ott - house of cards on netflix. Commerce: better, bigger, cheaper may sell more sets (and more ads) Personal aspirations: desire to explore and invent, or greed a(cid:374)d (cid:449)e(cid:859)re (cid:271)a(cid:272)k to. Ideas in the air: may need another tech to go ahead, cannot broadcast (we know now) without sufficient electricity. Samuel morse invented the telegraph (which used wires) in 1844. 1847 bakewell - metal stylus writing on foil at a receiving station mimics the writing at sending station.
