Tongue is also designed to alert us of problems, we learn what to like and what to dislike, we have a natural reluctance to bitterness and alcohol, we learn to like them. We are in constant danger of poisoning ourselves. Our tongue alerts us of toxins (mostly bitter), sweet usually doesn"t cause much harm. Since taste is crucial for survival, our taste sense is fast, it"s faster than our sense of touch. We have 20 receptors on our tongue that can taste bitter compared to one receptor for sweetness. Our perception of taste is different from person to person. Medical condition for people that can"t taste ageusia (taste blindness)
