Harris government was elected in 1995 and re-elected 1999. He resigned as premier of province in october 2001. Common sense revolution: a conservative platform to reduce taxes, balance budget and reduce size of enrollment of government (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1, like privatization. Started with ronald reagan in us and margaret thatcher in uk. Main points: personal responsibility and initiative, deregulation, privatization, liberalization of markets, downsizing of governments, cutback to welfare state. Approach to economic liberalization where control of economic factors shift from public to private and start deregulating to cut costs and lower taxes. Neoliberalism as set of technologies of power in capitalist societies: emphasis on performance, efficiency and marketability of knowledge, emphasis on privatization and away from public processes, redefinition of citizens as clients. Since 1995 have significantly affected urban: drastic welfare cuts, safe street act. Urban neoliberalism implemented by province with complicity of sectors of society and local political actors (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1)
