Document Summary

The social problems that are causes by data centres are an increase carbon footprint and global warming. The reason behind this is because of the increase in power consumption by coal fired power plants create huge amounts of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Also, hydroelectrical plants are the default but they too are being used as an alarming rate and pulling useful resources from the environment. Some of the solutions available for these problems from a managerial perfective is employees understanding the importance of cutting power consumptions such as turning off devices when not using them employees enforcing policies so that they can save money. For example, in the case study when dcc (data centers canada) turned off their chillers and air conditioners and ended up saving each month in electricity bills. Some organizational solutions would be using more hydroelectric power plants rather than coal powered plants because electricity is more renewable than coal.
