Includes everything that a group thinks, says, does and makes: its customs, language, religion, material, artifacts, and shared system of attitudes and feelings. Is learned, shared, and transmitted from one generation to another. Passed on by: parents to kids, social organizations, special interest groups, the government, school, church. Ethnocentricity: belief that ones own ethnic group or culture is superior than others. Problem: causes people to view other cultures in terms of their own causing them to overlook important human and environmental difference among cultures. Consumer ethnocentricity: if you buy a foreign product you think its immoral, immoral to have anything not produced in your country. Getscale: a scale to measure how strong ethnocentricity is, ex: its not right to purchase foreign products because it puts americans out of job: Based on the answer consumer gives, you can measure consumer ethnocentricity.
