Document Summary

Book quality of a perfect binded book is durable. Perfect binding production is much faster than case bound books. There are four raw materials in hot melts for bookbinding: The backbone of the formulation: viscosity, mechanical properties, flexibility, heat & cold resistance, thermal stability, colour, compatibility. Gets the polymer and tackifier onto the spine: promotes machinability, controls the set speed. A(cid:374) (cid:862)a(cid:374)ti-oxida(cid:374)t(cid:863) that pre(cid:448)e(cid:374)ts the hot (cid:373)elt fro(cid:373) breaki(cid:374)g do(cid:449)(cid:374) a(cid:374)d gelling: stops viscosity changes, stops colour changes, stops particle formulation and gelling, maintains the physical properties and overall performances. Aqueous products are absorbed into paper fibers. Hot melts on the other hand, rely on mechanical bond to the paper fibers. Bookbinding hot melts have to last a very log time and they have to do a better mechanical bonding job than a packaging hm. Quality is similar to that of case bound books. Has limited adhesion to certain types of paper and stocks.
