Also sparks nationwide support for crm, leads pres. Police released the 3 to white supremacists who killed them. March 7, 1965 - led by john lewis. Marchers are brutally assaulted by state troopers, racists. August 6, 1965 - outlaws discriminatory tests and introduces federal supervision of registration in states with low black registration. Cra ends legal segregation in public spaces and schools. Vra won federal protection for black voting rights. Came from a strategy of pursuing legal changes thro non-violent direct action.
