Itm 100 - how businesses use information systems. An information system is a collection of computers sharing data. Order fulfillment process: sales- generate orders, submit order, accounting check credit, approve credit, generate invoice, manufacturing and production assemble product, ship product. How information technology improves business processes: 1. increasing efficiency of existing processes. Automating steps that were manual can be done using technology: 2. enabling new processes that are capable of changing the business. Types of information systems: tps transaction processing systems, perform and record daily routine transactions necessary to run a business, such as sales orders entry, payroll, shipping. Cash transaction cash is being exchanged, cash and inventory is affected. In a transaction one account will increase and the another account will decrease: allow managers to monitor status of operations and relations with external environment, serve operation levels, serve predefined, structured goals and decisions making.
