Chapter 10: privacy inside and outside the workplace: Recent federal legislation that covers personal information held by organizations in the private sector: personal information protection and electronic documents act (pipeda) A common law tort that has been recently recognized: intrusion upon seclusion (invasion of privacy tort). Does not generally affect person employee information held by provincially regulated employers in ontario. For example: an employer in ontario cannot make a claim under. Pipeda that her employer collected or used person information such as workplace video surveillance, without her consent. Pipeda applies to all federally regulated organizations and affects how they collect, use, disclose and retain person information concerning their employees, customers, patients and suppliers. Pipeda applies to all person information collected, used, or disclosed in provincially regulated organization in the course of commercial activity: includes commercial transactions and selling, bartering, or leasing donor, membership, or other fundraising lists. Pipeda does not apply to employee information because of the division.
