Assimilation: process of resocialization, to replace one's original worldview with
that of the host culture
U-curve hypothesis was the first intercultural adaptation model
Phase 1 is a short period of euphoria where the excitement of travelling to a new
land is the strongest emotion
Phase 2 (culture shock period) the person reacts negatively to living in the new
environment.
anxiety, hostility, depression, alienation, physical illness, or identity
confusion
Phase 3 (acculturation period) the person begins to function in new social
environment, integrated/ confidence
Phase 4 (stable state of mind phase) may have three outcomes:
