Henri foyal and max weber recommended organizational structures that depend on harmony and systematically discouraged conflict. Elton mayo- founder of ob- employee conflict disrupts effectiveness of organization, undermined hierarchy. Results in a higher turnover rate and low customer service. Less communication leads to further conflict as it is based on perception. Mary parker follet- friction can be put to use. Debate issues (tests logic) eval alternatives learn each other better creative solutions. Allows them to question current practices- sensitive to dissatisfaction to stakeholders. Faced with an external threat- conflict creates cohesion. Constructive conflict: people focus their discussion on the issue while maintaining respect for people having other points of view. Because different positions are encourages- ideas and reccs. Can be clarified, redesigned and tested for logical soundness.
