Scientific management: concern for production, scientifically analyzing manufacturing processes to reduce costs and compensating employees based on performance. Factory workers were the beginning of unions because the workers realized how unfair the system was (around the invention of the assembly line) As well as unions, laws for minimum wages were created and maximum number of hours a manager can make a person work per week. Human resources was born as a way to try to replace unions, they wish to make both employees and employers happy. With happy e(cid:373)ployee"s there is no point in joining a union. Personal administration: hiring, firing, payroll/benefits processing. Union liaison, compliance with new laws orientation, performance appraisal, employee relations. Human resources management: outsourcing of many administrative functions, emphasis on contribution and proactive management of people.
