Organizational behaviour (ob): study that seeks to understand, explain, predict and change human behaviour. Behavioural science: research that improves one"s ability to understand, predict and influence the behaviour of others. Ob is just a theory, it provides a great understanding but does not guarantee anything. Human capital: the knowledge, skill, experience and creativity of an employee. Ob concentrates on the discipline on human capital. Goals of ob is to continually grow the human capital through talent, capacity, synergy and effectiveness of people that work in them. Three levels of study for ob: individual level (employee attitudes, motivation, leadership, group level (teams, communication, job design, organization level-wide level (culture, organizational structure, change) The 5 roots of ob (emerged in 1940"s) (see exhibit 1. 1 pg7) Topics within psychology include work teams, work motivation, training and development, power & leadership, human resource planning, and work place wellness.
