Women are more willing than men to adjust their work location and hours in order to take care of young children and elderly parents, and to do unpaid housework. Some stockholders believe that using stock (shares of a company) to pay employees creates a sense of ownership that will improve performance, which will in turn, increase stockholder wealth.
