Laws & regulations are developed by a society to define what types of behaviours and attitudes will be tolerated and not tolerated. The law usually also includes some sort of penalty for those who engage in activities that break certain laws penalties dissuade people from doing that activity/behaviour in the first place. Ethics are often not as straight forward as laws what is legal and illegal. Utilitarianism- a decision which provides the greatest good for the greatest number is the best decision e. g. democracy. Everyone acting in their own self interest may lead to depletion of a resource. Nike sweatshops in asia, nike was forced to shut them down because it was unethical. Donors companies that write cheques to support worthy causes; actions tend to be unplanned and reactive to an external threat. Sponsors cause-related marketing, desire to create good will and to link causes to their own strategic goals.
