Term used by researchers conducting descriptive, qualitative studies (versus ethnography, grounded theory or phenomenology) Process of analyzing content of narrative data to identify themes and patterns: data are brokn down to smaller (meaning) units, units are coded/ named, coded material is grouped according to shared concepts. Manifest content analysis = ___what th text actually says. Latent content analysis= __interpreting meaning of text, often leads to themes. Each qualitative research approach has its own data analysis process: Analysis in ethnography: looking at the culture in groups; th research embeds self into the culture to try and understand meaning ; using observation, interviwes, pt charts, maps. Analysis begins as soon as researcher enters the field, Continually looking for patterns in behavior, thoughts, language etc. and comparing patterns simultaneously.
