PHL 333 Lecture 2: PHL 333 - Week Two
Document Summary
Not every human is going to live up to their full potential. Due to various aspects such as upbringing, living conditions, etc. As humans, part of our nature is that we have choices. The thing we all strive for is a certain way of acting, rather than a thing. Many people would argue that living well and doing well are the same thing as being happy. Happiness is not a means to an end, happiness is the ultimate end. We do not seek happiness in order to be healthy, successful, wealthy, etc. When something is flourishing, it is living up to its full potential; satisfying your nature. Moreso a way of living your life - it is an end in itself. Two things to find happiness (which are unique to humans): Self-sufficiency - contentedness, never needing anything else. To live a flourishing life is a long term, stable process.
