Property was held by individuals in the household, who were also often held in conflict with others. Aristocracy still relied of the peasants for military purposes. Political clout comes from the distribution of property. Solon"s reforms: reduction of peasant debt, created citizens" court: any citizen could bring case, polis becomes means of protection for peasantry, aristocratic rivalry relies on appeal to demos (people) A new political idea brought out to solve problems between peasants and courts. Eliminate various forms of extra economic property through the means of media. With solon reforms, civic community was strengthened, but at the expense of kinship. Also affected the judicial system with the creation of courts which all citizens had access to.
