Ego is the rationale part of your mind, and uses defense mechanisms to keep your unconscious urges out of your awareness. Ego psychology: the ego plays a central role in actively directing behaviour and behaviour change throughout adulthood. The ego is developing through adulthood and is a very important part of your personality.
