Meta-research evidence has generally supported a 5 factor model. The factor models presented in this lecture are again based on factor analysis of a lexical nature. Self-report ratings of big five factors; more clinical to dx mi. Same overall factors as costa & mccrae above. But c&m and goldberg developed different ways to measure it . Goldberg - bipolar (e. g. opposites) ratings (using adjectives) (defined by test popn) Openness to new experiences (o): closed vs open: tend to vote higher since its more complementary; but ratings are situational, questions may be answered similar to another; redundant, may increase reliability but not validity. O and c predicts life success; o by being open and odd; c by sticking to deadlines, persevering.
