Aggression: behavior directed towards another individual carried out with intent to cause harm. Violence: aggression that has extreme harm as its goal. 1/8 criminal incidents in canada are violent: rate of reporting has declines. 33% of them are reported: 51% committed by someone victim knows, 44% by strangers. Highest report for: robbery, physical assault. Most common reason for not reporting: victim dealt with incident in another way, not important enough, didn"t want police involved, felt it was personal matter, didn"t think police can help, fear of retaliation from perpetrator. Higher rates for violent victimization if: young, single, often going out in the evening, living in city consequences. Physical injury during violent offence: 25% result in physical injury, 7% of sexual assaults, 30% robberies, 31% physical assaults. Post offence: 25% difficulty functioning daily, anger, feeling upset, confused, frustrated, feeling fearful. Hostile: impulsive reaction to real or perceived provocation or threat.
