SOC 203 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Industrial Revolution, Conflict Theories, Bourgeoisie
Document Summary
So much wealth was created in england during industrial revolution. The sun never sets on the british empire. They owned the production of many things. But little of the wealth was distributed to individuals upon whose backs this wealth was created. Workers don"t get fruits of their labour, the owners did. Some lived in opulent wealth, others didn"t. Workers worked 6 day weeks in cramped dirty conditions. Child labour was typical (6-7 years old) Minimal pay for optimal work: believed that all societies are organized around economic life, mode of production, in ancient greece and rome. Economic life was based on slavery (forced to work) Work or die, so people choose to work. Forced peace: in feudalism, in capitalism. Serfs worked on land owned by nobles and got to live as a tenant on the land (forced to work) Workers work for the bourgeoisie (work for free choice, work or starve) (cid:1) (cid:1)
