Guidelines are made so people have obligations to each other and society as a whole. He thinks that social solidarity stems from two sources: early societies. Were held together by the mechanical solidary, basically on the likeness and similarity of people. Subunits have structural similarities, able to provide for themselves, economically sufficient, but this is not enough to keep the solidarity amongst individuals. Subunits are able to survive while isolated from each other. Individuals had collective consciousness in which it had a bunch of beliefs and sentiments which were common to all people.
