They all argue that 1. it is only particular men who abuse; 2. only the particular men abuse because they are mentally ill. Doesn"t look at patriarchal power relations or how the abuse is normalized in society. They only look at individuals on a case to case basis. Psychologists, like sociologists, all begin with statistics all the statistics dealing with family violence are wrong (most people don"t report) All psychologist are looking at is physical violence because when abuse is actually reported, it is physical violence that is reported. Argues that the reason why men abuse is because you grew up witnessing your father abuse your mother or you were abused by your father, or both therefore, you become an abuser.
