Constructionist approach= sexual subject is sociocultural & historical product. = challenges neat, stable categorization of sexual identities & point intersectional considerations. Viewed knowledge & discourse of sexuality as part of process of subjectification: eg: constitution of human subjects. Discourses of sexuality create systems of social control which shape human experience. Sexuality involves not only physical attraction but romantic attraction. Preferences for physical attraction & romantic attraction don"t always line up. Heterosexuality: idea that sex, gender, & sexuality aligns together. Compulsory heterosexuality: idea that standard, norm, & desire/goal is hetero pairing/lifestyle. Beginning from assumption that heterosexuality is normal: assume everyone is heterosexual. Homosexuality is seen has a mental disorder: give them hormones or pills to fix them , aversion therapy shock therapy. Heteronormativity presupposes dichotomous view to sexuality: all deviations from norm are read as single type, eg: you are either heterosexual or homosexual. Erasure--- other people don"t exist in society not shown in media.
