Modern human anatomy documented earlier and earlier. Great time gap existed b/t appearance of modern skeleton & modern" behaviour. Discovered in early 2000s, herto skulls represent one of earliest known anatomically modern humans. These represent position anatomically & chronologically b/t archaic homo sapiens & fully modern humans. Predates neandertals, suggesting neandertals not direct modern human ancestor. Found in assoc w/ sophisticated stone tools & butchered animal remains, indicating hunting. Herto child"s skull probs 6-7 yrs old, based on teeth. Herto skulls may represent pop on verge of being anatomically modern but not quite fully modern.
