Sunday, october 23rd, 9:00am: fixity of species ; dogma that species have always been in the same form throughout time since created by god (cid:223) circumstances up until 1600 1700s in europe, 1700s into the 19th century: people starting to have problems with the biblical version of things, mostly geologists and paleontologists (cid:223) were called naturalists at the time (if you were interested in the natural world, regardless of what you were interested in, you were called a naturalist, bothered by the belief that the world only existed for 6000 years and the fixity of species, geologists went out and saw huge accumulations of sediments and rocks (cid:224) knew how rocks were created and saw that there was no way that those rocks could have been formed in only 6000 years, paleontologists (cid:224) looked at fossils and saw that the only constant is change, mid late 1800s: changes in more general thinking occur.
