In eastern and southern africa the majority of fossil discoveries have been made recently. With new discoveries, old theories have to be abandoned. There are multiple systems that are used to order the chronology of time. 8-5 million years ago the first hominids developed. Based off fossil studies it"s evident that the first ancestors to humans and chimpanzees lived at this time. Orrorin tugenensis from lukeino in tugen hills of kenya are the fragments of the believed first ancestor. As well as a skull from the djourab desert in chad. The age of lukeino skeletons goes from 6. 1 mil to 5. 7 mil. More recently the airdipithecus ramidus kadabba fossil has been found in ethiopian rift valleys. It"s hard to connect their relationships to later hominid fossils from miocene and early pliocene sites west and south of lake turkana in northern kenya. Period prior to 5. 5 mya saw the evolution of the appearance in the first hominid.
