Before we move on to the next hominins along our evolutionary line, there are a few issues that we should address concerning homo erectus: There have been no serious doubts about the dating of this site. There has also been a claim for stone tools at the site of riwat, And we have claims for dates in china and java of 1. 8 and maybe even 1. 9 mya. Well, if these are stone tools they are very crude, similar to what we see at the earliest sites in east. Africa several cobbles with only 2 or 3 flakes removed this is certainly possible. However, these cobbles were not isolated items they were found in conglomerate deposits that contain innumerable cobbles just like these. In such deposits the natural flaking of such cobbles is very common. Many researchers doubt that these are real artifacts. They are likely ecofacts naturally produced items that, by chance, mimic crude artifacts.
