33 views2 pages

Document Summary

The immune system attacks a part of the body. Part of the sex difference may be due to women having babies. Autoimmune incidence in women increases 15-30 % after giving birth. Proteins and cells foreign to their body come from the fetus during pregnancy and at birth if there is an exchange of blood. The woman"s body not only attacks the foreign antigens but also her own body. Rheumatoid arthritis in which tissues in a joint are attacked, Diabetes type i (juvenile) in which the pancreatic beta cells are destroyed and therefore cannot make insulin. Multiple sclerosis in which the nervous system is attacked: immunization. We have all been immunized at various times in our life. By getting immunized, our immune system stores a memory of a pathogen which can then be successfully attacked if it enters our body. Vaccines are less potent versions of the real pathogen.
