Gov mandated benefits: employment insurance (ei) Federal program intended to provide temporary financial assistance to eligible persons who experience interruption to their work through no fault of their own. Not payable when an employee is terminated for just cause. Provides employees who are laid off, terminated w/o just cause, or who quit their job for a justifiable reason (such as harassment) w/an alternative form of gov income until they secure employment. Eligibility is restricted to persons who have paid into the acct, have worked a min # of hours in a specified time, are willing & able to work.
