Stravinsky is one of the greatest and most influential musical voices of the twentieth century. The rite of spring is perhaps one of the most famous works from the century. Caused a riot during its premiere in 1913. Following the rite of spring, stravinsky"s style matched music following the baroque and. Diaghilev, a russian impresario heard stravinsky"s first work, fireworks, and was so impressed that he commissioned stravinsky to orchestrate music for his next season in paris. Stravinsky wrote firebird for diaghilev and became famous practically overnight. Stravinsky"s first composition teacher was nikolai rimsky-korsakov. Rimsky-korsakov used russian folk songs in his own music. Rimsky-korsakov"s approach to music was totally romantic in style. Korsakov"s use of the whole-tone and octatonic scale would show up in stravinsky"s early works. Was the famous director of the russian ballet. Brought together prominent composers, choreographers, and painters. Introduced russian art to the west in 1906. Diaghilev recognized the appeal of exoticism for parisians.
