You have a self you are a self . Idea of a self is linked to questions of communication. Were you the same as you were when you were three: metaphysics, im the same person, but different. Being a person means to have a sense of continuity through memory through time. Our knowledge of the world/self comes from compare/contrast. Self-other dyad: social roles teacher-student , we build a structure to see who belongs where, we are only able to understand who we are as persons bc we understand who we aren"t. We are such unique beings that we shouldn"t be affected by other people. \ How does edwards hall idea of poly/mono relate to idea of self . You use your rational self to reign in your desires/spirit. The self is rally a social event rather than a private thing; that only exists in relation to an other; and that the relation with others is maintained in processes of human communication.
