The ad has to work to connect the meanings that the signs generate. Code = the means by which the signs are assembled and structure to make meaning grammar is a code, but they seem to be invisible to us, they are subconscious. The slim fast ad has to things to accomplish (thesis statement below): o o o o. To make it seem like it is actual/regular food. Integrate that product into our everyday lives and habits. It accomplishes this task by a series of scenarios where the slim fast bar is simply present which ads up to a lifestyle package where the bar seems to be naturally associated with food. Paper: will be looking for goldman and williamson applied. Commodity sign: a piece together of signifying unit and signified meaning (goldman, p. 18), so usually it is the product.
