With the advancement in technology, society, and economic circumstances people have left the traditional embedded groups to become connected to a diversity of groups while still keeping their identity. Network individualism has also encourage personal autonomy (self-governance) As a consequence of network individualism people become tied to the social networks before their neighborhoods. Raine & wellman dissect the trends that lead to a wider spread for connectivity that lead to the social network revolution. The weakening of group boundaries is one aspect of networked individualism.
