Social networks go past traditional 2 way dialogues, that support a wide variety of opportunities, restraints, and affiliations. Society has emerged from networked individuals; this allows people from diverse individuals to connect and identify themselves with groups. With the advancement in technology, society, and economic circumstances people have left the traditional embedded groups to become connected to a diversity of groups while still keeping their identity. Network individualism has also encourage personal autonomy (self-governance) As a consequence of network individualism people become tied to the social networks before their neighborhoods. Raine & wellman dissect the trends that lead to a wider spread for connectivity that lead to the social network revolution. The weakening of group boundaries is one aspect of networked individualism.
