Collected by police, influenced by reporting practices, compiled by statistics canada. As you go west and north, crime rates go higher. Bc we have a smaller population of male age 30-40 but now smaller proportion of 15-24 yr olds. Over-representation of aboriginal people in al stages of cjs. Crime rats in north are 5x higher than overall rates for canada. Part of it deals with population (small) Large proportion of indigenous community in the north. Uniform crime reporting ucr (official police data) Students were asked for their crime activates. Reflect official decisions what they do to the offender. What is happening in the court and how they are sentenced. Standardized system for collection of police data. Details regarding victims / accused / circumstances of incident.
