What another judge decides in another case becomes common law n used to decide future cases. All ciizens subject to law, expected to obey law, if they disobey law they should expet punishment. Laws have to be created by elected oicials. Laws must be clearly writen (can be understood easily) Penalies must be speciied (when u violate the law, law has to set out what the penalty is for that ofence) Resoluion of disputes between private ciizens (form of private law that regulates relaionships between individuals rather than individuals and the state) Criminal law (disputes between maters that efect society as a whole. Proof beyond a reasonable doubt most important aspect of cjs other than fact that individuals are innocent before proven guilty. Wronged party seeks inancial damages (cannot seek prison ime, probaion or any correcional sancions) ~all civil court can do is award inancial damages~ Establishes rules police, courts & correcions must follow (ie. state decisis)
