(most abilities takes time to emerge) 4. development occurs at different rates/times in different parts of the organism. ex: tremendous growth in first year. Reason for head start programs: there are sex differences (not absolute, but they are tendencies or prinicples. up to age 11 boys are taller and heaver, but after age 11 the girls catch up and get taller. Girls tend to become more linguistically in depth at a younger age, due to brain lateralization.
