Document Summary

The ted talk by brene brown called "the power of vulnerability" further emphasizes the importance of acceptance and openness in society. Once people are willing to be silly, make mistakes, be imperfect, they become less vulnerable to the shame they feel, and likewise students who no longer fear the judgement of others or self-judgement can thrive in the classroom. This notion of whole- heartedness relates to dewey"s notion of it as an attitude because, similarly, if teachers (or those in a sort of mentorship position) possess this attitude, there will no longer be such indifferences that rodgers discusses. Reflective thinking is needed to be able to acknowledge such short-comings.
