The article by darley & latane (1968), is a response to kitty genovese case, a young woman, who was killed in a knife attacked and killed in the middle of the street in new york city. There were about 38 onlookers who watched this incident for about half an hour until kitty was killed and no one even tried to help her or ask for help. Media linked this attitude of the witnesses to urbanization and loss of moral values. However, researches about the event offered different facts and reasons that why witnesses of this incident didn"t want to help the victim (darley & According to darley and latane (1968), the first possible reason was the presence of other onlookers who they shared the responsibility to the situation.
