Conception: all humans come from 2 gametes colliding (then form to zygote, all eggs in a female are formed prenatally, but sperm production continues throughout male life, from zygote to newborn. Conception to 2 weeks: pregnancy lasts until the zygote becomes implanted in the uterine wall then there is rapid cell division (now is embryo). (this is the germinal period) then embryo organizes (division, cell migration) Fetal stages (9th week): growth, sensory experience and learning period of the fetus. Trimesters: pregnancy divided into 3 month periods. Due date: doctors assign a specific due date (based on woman"s lmp, only 5% of bbies are born on exact date) Reproduction: through sexual intercourse (usually) egg launched from ovary into fallopian tube, egg release and 500mil sperm the vagina, high failure rate due to genetics or defects, survival of the fittest sperm. 4 processes: cell division, cell migration, cell differentiation, cell death.
