PSYC 330 Lecture Notes - Lecture 11: Neurological Disorder, White Matter, Amyloid Beta
Document Summary
Difficult to use to assess some aspects such as divided attention deficits. Part a: subject has to connect the numbers from 1 to 25 randomly scattered on a sheet of paper. Part b: complexity in the sense that it has 13 numbers and 13 letters. Trail consists of connecting numbers and letter sin alternation. People can take a long time to connect the numbers = low concentrations. Connect the numbers and letters in a corresponding order. Does not tell what kind of attention deficit the individual has. Math is hard for someone with attentional deficit. Attention deficits associated with the frontal lobe tend to be more closely related to executive. The frontal lobes are thought of as planning center and disruption of its function by injury and disease tends to cause attention deficits that impair mental flexibility and inhibition and concentration. Can cause increased distractibility, greater susceptibility to stroop interference, and an increase in action slips.
