Coping - strategies that indiv employs to deal w/ stresses caused by ever- changing demands of env. Stress literacy - degree to which indiv or community understands effects of stress. Homeostasis - dynamic physiological response to maintain stable internal state in spite of demands of env. Fight-or-flight response - autonomic reaction when faced w/ perceived threat. Endocrine system - responds to stress more slowly but can persist for weeks. Glucocorticoids (e. g. cortisol) & ineralocoricoisd (e. g. aldosterone) Adds emotions such as aggression, anger, fear, anxiety, sexual arousal, pain. Communication network, filters input from sensory systems. Predisposing factors interact w/ stressors to trigger stress response. Cognitive appraisals determine if event will be perceived as stressful. Primary appraisal - initial evaluation of the situation; three kinds.
