Sociologists travel the world and focus on aggregates and not individuals: they notice. Connecting personal problems with public issues and their history. The concept of being able to pull back from familiar routines in order to look at them from a new perspective: the problems of people are a reflection of greater problems and issues in the society. Therefore, the people can relate their problems to these historical issues that are occurring in society. Examples: finding a job, paying the mortgage, becoming homeless. Connected to the public issue of the economic meltdown caused historically by the lack of regulation of the mortgage industry. Post modernism red = form foundation of the discipline of sociology. The government pays for the education of the children of the family. The family, in turn, pays taxes to the government. The children get an education and they turn into law abiding citizens who pay taxes. Social structure: relatively stable patterns of social behaviour.
