To qualify for resettlement in canada, a refugee must satisfy the following requirements. Eligibility, admissibility, successful establishment, no prospect of another durable situation, financial support. Refugee receive financial assistance for the first year or till they can support themselves financially. Must have skills, work experience, language to continue living in canada: government-assisted refugee: referred by unhcr, processed and screened by canadian visa officers. Supported financially by government for 12 months: privately sponsored refugees: supported financially 6 months by government then private sponsors, blended visa office referred refugees: get decision making, supported financially for 12 months by private sponsor. Irpa provides two ways in which refugees can receive protection from canada: resettlement program: government sponsorships, private sponsorship, joint sponsorship, the refugee claim process: irb (immigration refugee board of canada)
