Expressionism: style specific to germanic territories and the early 20th century; they looked to older art and found interest in anguish and emotions. This group painted modern germany and industrialization; the thought was that people were alienated from each other. As a viewer, we are going straight into the crowd; facing woman, but the road is angled; un- stable perspective. Getting across an out of place feeling. Odd use of colours; tension and unhappiness.
